Ok, drove her around today, she did great..... went to work, started her up,..put it into reverse, she died...now i cant get her to start again.. i put a new coil, new module, and still nothing.. I tryed to see if i was getting a spark on the wires, and i was told that it didnt, when i was cranking it....im thinking it might be the sparkplug wires, cap and rotor button but not sure..had to leave her at work.. ..i've got to get her to start and soon, i dont know how long she'll go without being broken into.. any help would be great

I doubt your wires, cap and rotor would wear enough to actually prevent the car from running. They would have to be really old and have a ALOT of miles for that to happen. I wouldn't replace them until after you get the car running, you could create more problems on top of whats already wrong.

Shoot a little starting fluid down the carb and see what happens. If it fires up and dies, its a fuel problem. Do not try to run the car off the starting fluid for very long, its hard on the rings and stuff.

Pull the main spark plug wire loose from the distributor that goes to the coil. Put a spark plug in it and rest the metal threads of the spark plug on something that is bare metal. This will eliminate the distributor. Have someone crank the car and see if it fires.

You need three things to run, air, fuel, fire.

It could also be the pick up in the distributor.

If all else fails, get a wire, run it from the positive battery cable to the red wire on the coil and then to the RED wire in the connector with 2 wires on the module. You just hot wired your car. If it starts, get home as fast as possible, the module won't last more then a few miles like that.

check to make sure your neutral safety switch is ok and engaged, hold up on your shift lever and sometimes that helps, check your fuses also.

yep it sounds like the neutral switch to me also. However;since it ran before you put it into reverse fuel may be a contributing factor. i suggest tracing the neutral switch wire first and once you get the car to fire, prime the carb.

well, she fired up,.. and ran out of the lot, down the street and died on the hill, i had my brother behind me so hit pushed it up the hill with his jeep, we used a tow strap on it to get her the rest of the way,....im getting fuel to it,... i think its the pickup coil, cuz before it started i had fiddled with it,...... so im thinking thats what it is but i'm gonna have to wait till tommorrow to get one,.. (o-joy!)
i was thinking cap and rotor button cause, its one thing i never replaced since i bought it.... all the fuel parts are new, brake parts are new, starter, battery,. etc... but i'm hope'in that the pickup coil will fix her for now..

If it was the neutral safety switch it wouldn't even crank or turn over ...

Doh, beat me to it. :)

Hope you get it straightened out. Not much left to replace if there's no fire.

fisrt thing.....is there gas in it...?

no spark......coil...distributor.....wires ...plugs.....chances are the wires and plugs dont ALL go out at once... check dist....take the bolt off that is holding it down and check to see if the gear isnt broke,... and you said you replaced the coil...so thats isnt it anymore.

when you put it into reverse...were you rolling at the time and then hit the gas while still rolling....if so....it could have broken the distributor gear...or something similar..

starter solenoid.....cheap to buy (15.00) and if it isnt it...you have eliminated it as a possible suspect.. and now its new...so you wont have to worry about it in the near future

So you think replaceing a motor mount on a straight 6 was a pain in the ass. And your considering swapping a 302 in?

Anyone else think that train is going to fast into that corner? May just end up in a wreck. :hmmm:
