To be more accurate, I hit a fawn. Yeah, that's right. I killed Bambi. But wait, it was a female fawn so does that make it Bambette? Anyway, my hubby and I decieded to take the day off and go to a car show a couple of counties away. To get there we have to drive over a lot of country roads that are infested with deer. Having grown up in deer country, I learned to drive with both eyes scanning the sides of the roads for any sign of deer. I was moving along at the speed limit ( 40 MPH) and glanced over to the right shoulder. When I glanced over to the left, there was a fawn not 15 feet away trotting across the road. I remember saying " Sorry, baby." (in referance to the deer, not the car), and standing on the brakes. I hit her with the bumper and the edge of the hood. I left 20 feet of rubber on the road and when I finally stopped, the fawn slid off to the shoulder, dead on impact.:( The only damage to the Maverick is a small dent on the edge of the hood were I think her head hit, the hood moulding is bent down a little and the paint on the front rubber gravel shield is cracked. I know how much you guys hate the big bumpers, but this is the second time one of our Mavericks have been spared major damage because of the big bumpers. Last year on the way to the same show, the Stallion got hit in the rear end and the big bumper saved us from a ton of damage. This year it was a deer. I think I'll skip that show next year. I'm afraid the way our luck runs that I'll hit a freaking bear next.:yikes: On a brighter note, the day was not a total disaster. The Maverick still managed to win first place in it's class. I guess the judges couldn't see the dent in the hood while the hood was up.

That really sucks. Glad everyone is okay. I'm sure you'll have the car fixed by next weekend. Congrats on first place, in your class....

Damn, glad it didn't do more damage. I narrowly missed 2 BIG deer one night in my '74 Grabber. One was already dead in the middle of the road, blood everywhere and the other was standing about half way in the road. I about got that thing sideways trying to miss them. Guess it wouldn't have really mattered now anyways...

My dad tottaled a '95 Mustang GT when a deer ran out in front of him.

    Congrats on the first place.

We have a ton of deer running around out here too! Also, a couple of kids ran into a big black bear the other night. It was right out in the middle of the main road. They had pictures of it in the paper and everything. They said the thing weighed almost 300 lbs!

I'm just thankfull it wasn't a full grown deer. It don't think the big bumpers would have done much good against one of those. I can just see myself showing up at a car show with a deer sticking out of the windshield. I have classic insurance on the car, so I'm going to call the insurance company tommorow and see if the damage is covered. I won't be fixing the car right away. Too much other work to get done.

The deer was gone when we went home. It was laying near someone's driveway, so I'm guessing they drug it out into the woods to dispose of it. With all the road-killed deer up there stinking to high heaven, I wouldn't blame them for wanting to get rid of it. Besides, it was loaded with deer ticks and those ticks carry Lyme Disease. No way was I going to touch it without gloves.
