HOLY COW, $8K for this?

Y'all probably remember watching this one on ebay, it was discussed on the forum in the past. Looks like the seller got what he wanted. Somebody's about to get a wake up call about getting "upside down" on a car! IMO

All and all......that is not a REAL bad price. It has all the hard to find and desireable parts.

 

I hope mine looks that good when I hit the $8K mark.

I also agree that it is getting more expensive to find the original parts to restore these Mav/Comets with many of the various factory options.

Maybe it was a member on here that bought it. I know it wasn't me. Seems like most members on here would have bought a cheaper one, and used the extra money to restore it properly. Maybe it was a nostalgic purchase.

I did notice that it has the same type factory original muffler on it, that I took off of my Grabber for a trade. If you look close, it has the word: "Maverick" stamped into it above the part number stamp on the muffler, with the 71 date code. I can't remember if my 72 Grabber's muffler had the 72 date code, or the 71 code. There is also an oval cursive Ford logo stamped into it. Probably the largest cursive Ford logos that appeared on the Mavericks from the factory....although hidden underneath on the muffler.

...and the torn passenger seat, and the top of the right fender and the a/c and the carpet and the cancer in the left fender well and the headlight fender trim and the hood skin cancer and the front bumper rust and the worn paint.....yada, yada yada.

Once they start approaching the $8-9K price range I'd want to just write the check and be done with it.

 

Wow! Maybe I should put mine on e-bay. Mine has less miles and no dents or rust. Same color, accept the interior, but mine is in better condition and I am the second owner. The value of mine just went way up.

 

I have been following this car and I HIGHLY disagree , 71-72 Grabbers are few and far between in "Survivor" Condition like this. Especially bucket seat floor shift cars it has the Desirable rare Grabber Yellow paint wich still shines beautifully in the pics a very nice color combination. You would spend 3k on a rust free Grabber and spend 10k to put it back this nice... ... If i had the money Id rather have a Survivor for 8k than a restoration for 10k with wrong door gaps and crooked stripes. Not to mention the interior looks impecable. California since new its gonna be rust free with the typical 40 year old surface rust ....looks 98% solid to me as stated... a fender fix a seat fix and a beautiful survivor in your driveway. I dont see rust on the bumpers? and thats not stated in the ad....

 

It is there, small but needing addressed. Is there more?

 

Why do we have to belittle a car every time it sells for decent money?
It's not like they are a dime a dozen anymore.
If you've ever restored a car (really restored), you know the value of buying an original, un-molested car.
I'd say that car is a little beyond keeping it a "Survivor", but still a desirable car, none the less.

I take this as a sign that people are getting tired of paying 10K for rusted out mustang's and camaro's. We might just be witnessing the beginning of a boom for our cars. As they say at Barrett Jackson's "That's a well bought car" (hopefully)

 

I don't think we're "belittleing" the car, what your're seeing are people voicing their opinion based on their perceived value for a car and the issues they feel need addressed. The key (and very subjective) point here is "perceived value".

Those of us shocked with what it sold for might be remembering "original" grabbers trimmed out very nicely that sold for around $5K within the past 45 days. The seller of this one found a buyer that thinks it's worth $8K so in this particular instance it was. It worked out well for the seller and the buyer is probably thinking the same. That's how free enterprise works.

I hope the price for all of them goes through the roof because there's not another one planned for my future...I own a nice one, it's finished and I'll ride the rising price tsunami until some other interest or need comes along. Just wait till you see my sales pitch and photos when (or if) it ever goes on the market, because this guy proved it works.
