My 70 Mav hood don't close over the 74 grille I mistakenly installed. Hood don't appear to be bent. Not sure if hood is from a 70 or not. Getting new grille, but are all Mav hoods interchangeable? Any help appreciated. ......... Mac
Hoods are interchangeable. Check the prop rod, and see if it is interferring with the good. Also, check the alignment of the latch. It will not close if it is a bit off. Good luck! Earl
mac, bring it by and we will take a look at it. as earl said it sounds like the hood latch is not lined up just right...frank...:bananaman
TNX Earl and Frank Guess I'll just rope the hood down for the 4500 mile trip from Alaska to Ga. Actually hood closes and locks (?), but then it's hard (real hard ) get fingers under to release it. gassin up now want me to bring ya a little snow?
You may want to try to lubricate the hood release mechanism real good. I know mine has given me problems in the past, and after spraying it with wd-40 or Kroil etc., it was fine.
mac, keep the snow. on the rad. support there are two rubber bumpers for the hood adj. could these be down too far. check the hood alignment. the only other thing i can think of is the grille pegs on the bottom of the grille not seating in the rubber gromets in the pan. if you leave today you could make the mini meet a the beach jan. 4th. ...frank...:bananaman :bananaman
tnx for all suggestions........discovered the nose was pushed back ( quite evenly so it was hard to tell ). It made it hard to get fingers in to hood latch. Anyone ever put a hood release cable on their Mav? TOM the free money was $1200 this year, and your breakup time has been duly noted.................mac
Actually if they are too high they will cause a lot of binding when the hood is closed and make the latch very hard to operate. If they are too low it wont affect the latch but the hood wont sit right with the headlight trim and can cause the hood to vibrated up & down at highway speeds.
i have a 76 comet that i need a hood for so can i just get any hood from any year model 70-77 maverick or comet and it bolt right in?
I'm running a '76 hood, '74 grille and '73 fenders on my '72 Maverick without any problems. It's all the same. The Maverick hood will bolt on but will not work/look right unless you get a Maverick grille and the front bumper would need the shock absorbers from a Maverick, otherwise It will look like it's sticking out way to far. Any year Comet hood will bolt on.
