I have never even sat in a Maverick. The wife had one in the mid 70's. She wants this one parked down the street. Its a "74. Does not say Grabber or anything else on or in the car. 6 cyl. and an auto trans. un known miles. Guy say it runs great, but don't they all? Wife is all goo goo about it I'm supposed to go drive it and buy it tommorrow. I guess it will be a Christmas present. Anything I need to look for? The body is very clean, as is the interior. Its one of the most plain jane cars I have ever seen. Original looking radio, no dash tear ups. If you have any tips please let me know. If it actually goes down the road on its own I'm sure the wife will have to have it. Speaking of sitting, I am a big guy and this thing looks quite narrow from seat to steering wheel. If I mounted some buckets would I maybe get a few more inches of space?
'74 is a pretty good year other then the big bumpers and seat belt warning system. Both of which can be taken care of. If it's a Grabber the 3rd and 4th digit in the VIN will be 93.
Steve; take a look at the gallery on this board, and you can see about every configuration of a Maverick, from plain to all out race. These little cars are great to fix up and make a great daily driver. Hope the car is what you want, and she enjoys it. Make sure she gets an ID and on the boards. We would love to have her here. Take care, Earl
if you get the grabber buckets or the "LDO" seats, the mav is one of the most comfortable cars ive been in at 6'1". if it is rust free, being an older car you will need to check the brakes and suspension components for being worn. you could repair and upgrade them all for less than 1k though(unless your wanting a racing suspension). they are really reliable and cheap to maintain. If you dont live where it snows several feet for months on end, its a great daily driver car. at least she isnt trying to talk you into a new subaru(check my vehicle list)
good luck. once your wife gets one you'll probably get the itch also. i have 3 of them so far. welcome to the board.
to the board. It becomes an addiction. I have 3 Comets & 2 Mavericks....Post pics when you get it....
Welcome aboard. I'm on the NW part of Houston (Cypress). I can help you kick the tires if you want. Good luck
Welcome I got on this sight a couple of weeks ago myself and I must say it is addictive. The info from everyone is excellent. I am west of Houston in the Brookshire-Pattison area. I noticed several Houston folks this evening. This is good to know.
I worked at "Koomey Blowout Preventors" there at Koomey Road and I-10 in the early 80's. I raced every chance I got at the (now defunct) Sealy track in a Mustang. We'll have to get a Houston Mini-Meet going sometime.
