I am seriously considering buying this car.... what do you guys think of the stripe? very clean... needs heater core replacement, are parts available? easy fix?
Stripe doesn't do much for me, and I'm not much of a fan of painted bumpers on any Maverick, but overall it looks pretty good. Heater core isn't too bad as long as it's not an A/C car. Can be bought new at any auto parts store.
Stripe is not my favorite but looks like a nice car. I would guess it depends on the price and if it's what you like. That's the main thing.
And if the price is pumped up because it claims it is a grabber,, No such thing as a 77 grabber. But it appears to have the 71-72 grabber hood and rear spoiler treatment, which is very desireable and costly. Toss in the small bumper conversion and you have a nice car. You asked what I think of the stripe, and I think it is lame.
Yeah it is pretty clean ...the undercarraige has been painted black..the PO works a body shop.. he restored this about 3 years ago.... I dont know why he would have painted the stripe on it like that... I will have it removed if I was to purchase, like to get a 70 grill, grabber graphics & chrome bumpers too... then it will be pretty sweet.... the heater core does nee to be replaced and it is AC but the AC is not hooked up (cut off in the engine area) I think it is an excellent base to start off with being it has zero rust and all of the mechanicals are new, 37K original miles... Are the dashboards the same on a 77 as a 70? thanks for all the info
I hope you find what you are looking for but if painted on, they will not be easy to remove. IMO, looks good from the pictures minus the stripes.
Agreed. I hope thats a vinyl stripe. I'd even help ya remove it if I was closer just to get that stripe off the road. Looks like a clean car otherwise. Kind a like that color as well.
uh oh...they are painted on.... cant they just be wet sanded off or something? how much work would it be to remove them? I've been looking for a while and cant seem to find a clean "grabber" v8, auto, buckets, without spending over 10K. this car is clean, inside and out, low mileage, v8 auto, ....yeah it needs a little to get it "right" but seems like it would be a good starting point and still be able to drive it around and enjoy it while a work in progress. these cars are hard to find.... should I go for it or wait around... how much do you think a car like this should sell for being the condition and mileage etc.? thanks
If the stripe was done properly, the paint under the black would have been scuffed for it to stick. It's not as easy as wet sanding and buffing.
Its all in what you like, Everyones got a opinion..Dont go spending a ton of money and wrecking the nice paint job because you want people to like it, You can pick apart everyones car on this board on something you dont like,Its just personal taste. You ask for a opinion your gonna get alot of different comments, Its better to ask before the work is done otherwise you may get your feelings hurt..You never did tell us what he wants for the car..
There's only one way to remove a painted on stripe. You have to sand the stripe off which will screw up the blue paint which means you have to repaint most of the car. If the car has been clear-coated then you'll have to re-clear the car too. That's going to end up becoming a very expensive project. Unless you plan on re-painting the majority of the car, you're pretty much stuck with the stripe.
Greetings ... The dashes changed in 1973 ... built-out underdash instead of a tray, and the upper dash is squared-off in the lower corners to match. If you got an early upper and a tray, they ought to bolt in, or be very close to it. Maybe rather than removing the stripes, shoot some more blue over it. The paint looks pretty fresh ... might not be to hard to match it.
