Tell how you found your maverick, where, and how much you paid.

My dad and i was driving about an hour to look at a 1973 chevy nova. Along the way at a car-lot i saw a cool car (maverick) we turned around. She wanted $3800 we talked her down to $2500. She took it. We drove away my maverick.

I knew I wanted to buy an older car to work on. I looked around on ebay for cars in the 70's range. I stumbled on the maverick and saw that it wasn't too popular so I fell in love with it. Got my first car 1973 brown maverick from a guy on craigslist for $2500. No rust ANYWHERE on it, not even surface. It was amazing.

Wife's great grandmother's car. Bought new in 73. she was put in nursing home and the car sat in her garage for MANY years. After she drove it through a couple of ditches, garages, and garage SALES!!!

Anyway, sat at her daughter's house in a barn for a couple years after she died, then I started to talk with them. I got it for $600.

Pics of the great-granny at my website, and pics of the car when I got it, and the history...http://home.cmaaccess.com/~scodon/

Facebook marketplace. just browsin, searched "antique" in the cars section. pulled up and ad that said "LOOK: ANTIQUE FORD MAVERICK FOR SALE IN CONWAY" said its covered in duck tape completely, fella goin overseas with the armed forces, didn't have anywhere to put it. wanted 600. test drove it, dad asked if he'd take 500 and he said sure. took it to halters to get the tape removed and my uncles friend rebuilt the carb I replaced the fuel pump, gas tank, and seats. Found her with microscopic amounts of rust, perfect floorboards, a few dents: hood, roof, right rear quarter panel, trunk lid. my first car (other than the wagon in my wagon thread) real nice, and about ready to be driven to prom.

My first Maverick, a '74 Grabber, was found here. Also later got a couple of 76 parts cars from Terry.

I also found my '69.5 here, got it from 71gold. Got my '73 2 door from Earl Branham. Got my '72 daily beater from Clint Deal (cdeal28078). Got my currently driveable, but not driven '73 4 door from Mike (pitbull12888). Got a '72 Grabber that is now my brother's off Eli (302grabber).

I think that's about it. I got my first '73 4 door off a guy that lived in a neighborhood I used to live in up in Flowery Branch, GA. He GAVE it to me to get it out of his driveway. I drove it home. His parents had bought the car new. That's the only Mav I didn't get from someone on this board.

I found my Maverick on this board. Paid $250 for it. After adjusting the points from .25 to .025 I've been driving it ever since. I have about $1,000 invested in it so far.

met a rollback with a maverick on it, i turned around and stopped the guy and asked him where he was headed with it. he said to the crusher...
i gave him $50 and he brought it home...:thumbs2:
he said they junked it because it had a cracked block.
my son and i filled it with water, cranked it up and found it had a hole rusted in a freeze plug in the head. the water was dripping down on the block.

My father bought it from a guard that worked in the same place as my dad. Then he gave it to me because I wasn't a spoiled child like my older brother. Isn't he the greatest dad?

I made trips to Ga. to get both my Sprint Maverick and my Comet GT.

The Sprint was purchased off ebay from a member here, Mark Lee. It was an original Ga. car. The Comet GT was first owned by a member, Andysutt, who had sold it to another member, Tim H. Tim drove to Ark and picked up the car. Tim also bought a '72 Comet LDO for a parts car. I bought both of them from him. I also purchased a '71 Grabber, which was originally a Cal car that Tim had driven to Okla to purchase from another member here. I ended up making 4 trips to Ga. to get the cars.

I later sold the '71 Grabber to another member, Ken, from Ocala, to buy a Sprint Pinto from another member, Brad, who lives in Mich. He sold it to me so that he could buy a Maverick from another member, Sarah in Mich. Whew, Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, Oklahoma, California, and Michigan. Thank goodness for this forum!!

At least, we kept them all in the family, huh!

I've met Tim Holland several times, his shop over off Hwy. 316 is only a few miles from my house. Met Mark Lee once also, went down there with Terry (Hawkco) and Jeff (rthomas771) to get some parts Terry bought off him. All great guys. All 30 people I've met off this board have been great. That '71 Grabber.. is it yellow and missing the engine and trans?

I got my Comet from old Mrs. White in 1993. My brother-in-law was parking his Chevelle at her house in her double garage and parked next to it was a $h1t brown 1976 Comet. At the time i had a 1977 Maverick 4-door and my brother-in-law asked me why i liked Mavericks with a rather confused look on his face. I told him i have always loved Mavericks and Comets since i was a kid back in the '70's and my mom's first car was a 1974 Comet. So he says that he knows someone who is selling a Comet and off we went to see 'ol Mrs. White. She wanted to sell the Comet for $300 and she was the original owner of it. I was happy with the $300 price but my brother-in-law wanted to talk her down to $200 which he did manger to do. The funny thing was that Mrs. White wanted me to ONLY drive the Comet for one winter and then scrap the car. I guess if she was going to sell it to me $100 less than what she wanted for it then i should only drive it for one year or one winter only. So i promised to scrap the Comet after one year (so i lied). This car had a few small dents in it when i got it and never had a tune up or oil change since Oct 1975. It only had 19,993 miles on it and when i changed the plugs they were black with goo and the tires were bias ply on the front with old style winters on the back. Mrs. White died the next year (1994) and all these years later i still have the 'ol Comet and i will not part with it. I go to at least 30-40 car shows and cruises a year in my $200 one winter only beater, i love it. The best $200 i have ever spent, OH YEAH!!!!! Below is a picture of the 'ol Comrick in front of Mrs. White's former house where i bought it off of her in Aug 1993- the picture is from 2008- the Comrick's 15th anniversary.:yahoo: By the way if anyone cares other than me, this is my..........1000th post...:yahoo::dance::Ifireworks::grpnanadance: yee-haw..... yeah i know it's not that exciting !

My first one I was driving with my dad for driver's ed hours, and saw it parked in a field. Stopped and asked the owner if we could look at it. He had abandoned it because it was a flood car that needed too much work. He said I could have it for $100, and gave me his tow dolly to use, and a set of what turned out to be Shelby mag wheels to go with it. My second one, and current project, I found on Craigslist. I had been itching for something to work on, and typed in Maverick and it came up. I didn't seriously consider it until two days later when I talked to the guy and found out it had a freshly rebuilt 302 and a 4spd. Went to look at it, started it up, and instantly fell in love. Bought it the next day. Picture on the left is from the ad.
