I have the lower plastic dash panel on my 76 mav, and it has the opening for a radio.....but, it is just a rectangular opening with nothing else, how was the original radio mounted to this panel? I must be missing something.
Got two today, one all original, and the other has been cut for a later type radio/cd player, even has the radio adapter , was a good day at the junk yard!!
Okay I have an issue on my 72 bezel mount. Is there a mounting plate that the screws for the radio bezel screw into? All I have are these very large factory looking holes that line up where the bezel screw holes would go through--however there is such a hole that nothing could attach there unless I put a different screw with a large washer and nut on the underside lip of the dash. Ideas anyone?
There is a metal bracket that goes behind the dash. Need one? Email me directly (see below) if I can help.

I might have one just not sure what it looks like right now for some reason. Any pics out there? And would every car be equiped with one regardless of whether or not there was a radio that came with the car?
Yes...there is a bracket. I am pretty sure the bracket is there even when there is no radio, but I am not 100% certain on that. It is a slender metal bracket that fits right aboe the radio bracket and it is held in place with the radio bezel screws. I think what you are showing is the 1973-1977 dash. At least that is what it looks like to me. I see the nuts for the BIG phillips screws for the 1973-1977 radio bezel. I don't see the metal bracket I am describing.
Craig- Are you talking about the bracket that bolts to the stud on the back of the radio? If so, this bracket is shown in the link I posted. So is the bracket the bezel is screwed to. The photo of the dash I posted is from my '74.
1974 dash is different than the 1970-1973 dash...as far as how the radio bezel attaches. I will have to see if I can get a picture.
O.K....found a picture. In YELLOW is the bracket I am talking about. You take the (4) shielded speed nuts in RED and they get placed over the (4) holes on the YELLOW bracket. These are shielded, in that, they keep the screws from nicking into the wiring harness behind the dash. The (4) screws in BLUE is what holds the YELLOW bracket and the radio bezel to the dash.
