It's a shame that none ofthe big cam companies have roller grinds on 108 lobe seperation. ALL I see is 112 and 114.

 if i knew anything bout cams i'd tell you, what do different lobe seperations do for your engine?

Lobe seperation helps in a couple ways. 108 is great for a strip car because it Revs up fast and lowers torque to help keep the launch under control. A wider seperation helps with cylinder filling. Great for Super Chargers/NOS etc..... It makes torque go up. In the case of our cars. Light in weight Torque isn't as useful as HP on the track. 110 degree is a good middle ground. I have 110 now but most of the custom guys recommend the 108 since I have no power adders .

don't forget with a 108 your gonna have some low vacume compared to a 112 or 114

so if you have anything with power brakes beware you might need a vacume can.

    A better explantion

ConditionWide Separation AngleNarrow Separation AngleOverlapDecreasedIncreasedLow End PowerHigherLowerHigh End PowerLowerHigherDetonation PotentialLowerHigherIntake EventsLaterEarlierExhaust EventsEarlierLaterOverlapDecreasedIncreasedManifold VacuumHigherLower

LSA is the Lobe Separation Angle or the number of degrees between the intake and exhaust lobe centerlines. The LSA has a direct relationship to amount of overlap on a cam. Cams with identical duration and lift specifications can have very different LSAs. Generally speaking, a wide LSA will produce greater low end torque and a narrow separation angle will produce better top end power. For any given LSA, an engine will give similar torque curves and peak torque RPMs even with different overlaps. Refer to the LSA table above to determine how an increase or decrease in LSA is expected to change the performance of the engine.

i run a 108... when i put the supercharger on the car it woundn't shift.. above 4000 rpms lol! i found out the hard way when i floated the valves...

i had to run a manual valve body in it.. problem solved i really need to put the right cam in the car that should work with the supercharger not against it.. :p

I think My grandma had a cam like that in her Aries.:evilsmile

    hehehe
Comp Cams will grind anything you ask them to for a couple of extra bucks Lance. I'd call them up and talk with a tech about what you want out of it.
You can get a lot out of a small (relatively) camshaft when it's a roller, but a short centerline will still do what you describe.

Big cam, little converter, big tires, little timeslips.

By the way, where did that quote come from?

I had a similar duration and centerline in my firebird. It had a slight lope to the idle, but nothing radical, but it sounded nice. I could make it idle at 700 RPM no problem. I was running 10.5 to 11.0 compression as well. You have more lift than I had, which is what I really needed. Kicked in about 3,000 RPM and I think I ran out of head before I ran out of cam. It was good for mid 13s @ 105ish mph in a 3500 lb car. It was also a flat tappet, so you should have better ramp rates too. I like that cam. Should be pretty nasty.

That looks like a winner to me Lance. the 110* centerline should make it pretty user friendly and the rest will make it competition unfriendly. :D
