I installed a brand new distributor into my 1974 ford maverick 250 v6. I'm almost positive I put everything in correctly and back the way I saw it but my car won't start!!!

Did you set the engine on tdc, and put the dist. in pointing at cyl 1? Sounds like the timings off.

Top Dead CENTER. You watch the intake valve open on number 1 cylinder and you should be close. Look for the marks on the damper the front pulleys bolt to on the crankshaft. wes

it's not working... I took the spark plug out and crank until I felt pressure then I put the distributor back on set it to the "1" put all the stuff back together and nothing... Well it wasn't exactly nothing... The engine is firing... But it won't stay on

You are a tooth or 2 off OR all your plug wires were put on wrong - out of firing order.

Also, make sure all the spark plug wires really are where they need to be.

You cross a couple of them and it will try to start but not run.
