What are they called? I am looking online for them but don't know what they are, so I cannot find them. These will go over the crimped terminals on the alternator, the two on the 150A circuit breaker, and on the 2 battery terminals. May do 2 on the kill switch also, to cover up all "hot copper" terminals in the car. What are they called and where do I find them?
Terminal boots? I don't know of anyplace off-hand that sells them for automotive use but you should be able to get them from most any electrical supply house.
My neighbor, an electrical engineer for DOW, who loaned me the "correct" tools to crimp my terminals, and cut the wires, says I need to go to an automotive location for these. He also recommended that I try the local Harley shop... JEGS was a no-go, but possibly because I wasn't searching for the correct item name.
speaking from an electrical engineer perspective I have seen them at Harbor Freight, many automotive retailers, marine parts places, places that sell repair equipment for industrial machinery. These are pretty common parts that you should be able to find anywhere with a comprehensive electronics selection for electronics that need protection from liquids. Don't know if you have a John Deere dealer close but you can get them there. Here's the selection they have, probably have to order them but it doesn't take long to get them.
Guy at OReilly said I was going to have to go to a racing specialty shop. So I kinda lost hope in finding them locally. But, I have Autozone close by and will try them, and there is a Deere dealer just a couple miles down the road....
Well. I found what i was looking for at lowes. ON a john deere lawn tractor! So i am hoping the john deere shop near home is open saturday morning and has them in stock.
Bet money Autozone doesn't have them. Do you have an electric supply house in your area? Bet they have them. clint
Autozone didn't, hardware didn't, lowes didn't, I even went to a boat repair and sales shop and they didn't. I think John deere will be my best bet. I even went to Bass Pro in the boat section, and the guy behind the counter looked at me crosseyed when I tried to describe what I wanted.
Found them at John Deere, picked them up, and they seem to be perfect for what I am doing. Part number M46449, if anyone cares to know. Pictured next to a #2 lug. When slid on, it covers the entire brass lug and overlaps about 1/8" so no exposed metal.
