Im sure I could do a search but It's late and Im hoping this will be anserwed by the time I crawl out of bed.... How would one confirm a comet to be a GT? Im looking to purchase one locally. 302, floor shift, buckets, etc... It had a hood scoop at one time, but some lousy pucker stole it (or so the story goes). Im just not familiar with Comets to know exactly what to look for. Also, what's an approx value for one with a fairly rough exterior and rusted floor pans? Will find out if it runs as soon as I track down a key :16suspect Really I just want the engine/trans/shifter/buckets... Sorry Comet guys.
You will have to get a marti report. The vin will only tell you 2 door sedan. Depending on amount of rust and condition it could be anywhere from 600 if it is trashed up depending on condition.bought mine about 4 years ago completely restored factory GT for $6000
I second that on the Marti Report. If you part it out and it's got a good grille with three stainless trims, I would be very interested for my GT. - Matt
Like most said you need a marty report. However..... there are a few signs that will quickly tell you its NOT a real GT without question. For example check under the floor pans and make sure it has the bucket seat (back two bolts) "C" channel supports spot welded to the bottom of the floors. Having then doesnt make it a GT, but not having it makes it 100% not a GT. The front bucket seat support channels are inside the car under the carpet. You can check the hole for the shifter, making sure its a factory cut hole with the shifter hump, or if the shifter hump is missing the car should still have the 8 holes left from it. As mentioned having these doesnt make it a GT, but not having these means it wasnt for sure.
