if i buy

    If I buy the original pertonix to get rid of the points. should i buy a new coil too. and if so which one. flamethrower 2 ?

    You should get a coil compatible with electronic ignition.
    Or at least one that Pertronix recommends with their product.
    (doesn't have to be their brand)

    You can run a points coil with electronic ignition in most cases, but you just won't get much gain from the swap. To get full bang-for-buck, you need to upgrade.

    I have the pertonix module and coil on the grabber I got last fall. the the pertronix II coil I was told at Performance Products where I got it that you cant run points with it. but I got the original pertonix module and coil which can. So I keep a set of points and condensor in a bag in the trunk. If the module ever goes out you are not stranded.

    You have to use a coil with the correct primary resistance recommended by Pertronix. For the V8 module it's 1.5 ohms minimum, IIRC. In my case I just use the Pertronix to trigger a Mallory HyFire box so it's not a problem.
