Here recentley i found a complete 289 with a trans.I have seen this motor and trans in action in a 68 fairlane has all the brackets and pulleys i need so i dont have to buy a thing for this motor.I cant wait to get started on this.just throwing my plans out there.
You'll need either Maverick specific exhaust manifolds or headers. Also, 289s generally have the water pump hose on the passenger side, compared to Maverick 302s with the lower hose on the driver side.
I was going to say the same thing about the water pump. But no biggie you can get a new one at any parts store for like 40 bucks. Also check to see if its an early 289 with the 5 bolt bellhousing pattern, i know you said its from a 68 but its still something to check out seeing as a swap might have happened in its 40+year life.
If you change out the water pump, you might also have to change out the brackets for the P/S and altenator.
