ive had a set of spectre hood pins i never even opened, decided to put them on today

really not the highest quality item out there, but they were only $10

first thing i noticed was the paper thin backing plates and that the kit didnt include any straps to hold the pins when you pull them off.

another thing that kinda bothered me was the screws that hold the backing plates to the hood. i driled the holes in the hood slightly smaller then the size of the screws. the screws are installed using an allen key. by the time most of them were half way in the the heads were striped:mad:

anyway from a distance they look good and i already got a few compliments on them so i guess it turned out good. im probably just going to get some straps and backing plates elseware.

they say on the pack they are stainless steel, i guess i'll find out:oops:

I like them. All my cars end up with pins eventually. Next comes the removal of the hood latch assembly.

the thin plates will "survive"...pretty much
But you should go to Lowes or the Depot and get some new screws (you can get the straps there as well) .....those (screws) will rust as soon as they get wet. :)

Go to any Home Depot. They sell all kinds of coated stainless steel wire. The plates are just to keep from scratching the paint.

Yea, and you can make them up there... They have the crimp thingies and the crimp tool (usually in the same area). Take the pins inside with you so you can make a loop onto the pin loop. You need to know how long you want it and be sure to add for the lower loop(s). The one under the hood or the lower one, you can use the nut and bolt clamps they have, unless you want to buy the crimp tool. I would put two crimpies on the ends. One to actually crimp and one on the tip so the wire doesnt poke you, about 1/8" apart.

I ended up using two different sets of hood pins to get what I wanted. One set had the hair-pin-looking pins and lanyards and a really heavy backing plate, but I wanted the pins with the spring-loaded circles. Second set was cheaper and had the correct circle pins and thicker uprights. Mixed and matched and got all I wanted...

But, Still haven't figured out if I want the pins entering up and down or sideways...
