Hey all, I'm about to stick new shock struts in the Mav and wanted to know if there is anything I should worry about? My springs are fine and all so just the struts, I've got basic ones, nothing fancy. I've never done this before and the manual I have for the Mac is at home so I haven't checked to see how difficult/easy it is. I searched here and found lots of threads where people mention shocks but none where people have detailed the process.
will you be replacing the front or rear??? i just put the car on jackstands and remove them one at a time and put the new one on like i took the old one off... really not a big job...just be safe...frank...
Thanks boss. I'm just doing fronts and I have my trusty Chilton's which says as much but it's always a good idea to check with people who've actually done it. The one thing it said is I should remove the hood, is that really needed for clearance or would I be ok?
we are talking about your '72 mav.??? i take the top bolts loose first, then use a floor jack under the a-frame to bring it up to get to the bottom bolts...you can do this with or without removing the wheel. (i remove it). when replacing the shock, make sure you have the rubber bushings and washers on the bottom in place, the top is a piece of cake...frank...
It actually says that in a manual for changing shocks? Dont know who wrote that but he obviously never worked on a car.
Heh, see this is the kind of information I was looking for. I would have just followed the manual step by step. However by your replies it does indeed look as easy as described so I'll work on it Friday afternoon when I'm off work and there is still daylight.
