    Hey everyone,

    well I'm looking to upgrade my 73 mav. but really don't know about compatability of some parts. I am looking at getting an edlebrock rpm air gap intake with dual plain. and a holley 600 cfm or high carb with manual choke and 4 barrels single inlet.
    will this work or should I go with a edlebrock carb?:bouncy:
    what is better a single plain or dual plain intake?:bouncy:

    Far a basically stock motor, I'd go with the Edlebrock performer RPM. Unless you plan on changing heads or at least, hopping up your iron ones, the air gap probably wont do much more for you. A 600 is a good carb although most go with a 650. Before you do a carb & intake swap, I'd get a set of headers (hooker 6901s) and geat a decent dual exhaust system.

    Air-gap looks cool but it's not gonna perform any better than the standard "RPM". I don't know why people keep pushing 650 cfm carbs for these cars. Unless you have a big cam or aftermarket heads, a 570 (Street Avenger) or 600 is more than enough. Your engine will never even flow more than 600cfm of air at 6000 RPM. Over-carbing just makes it sluggish at low RPMs and makes the fuel ecconomy worse. My new 570 Street Avenger Holley actually runs better than the 600 I had on there (the 600 had #66 primary jets and the 570 has #54. 12 sizes smaller and runs better!)

    Also keep in mind that if you are running an automatic trans, the Performer RPM is taller than a standard Performer or your stock intake manifiold, which could cause problems with the kick-down rod for the trans. It's not an issue with manual transmissions.

    Definitely get a dual exhaust system if the car doesn't already have one.

    I've said it before and I'll say it again; unless you are ready to go "balls out" with performance mods, the simple addition of 4-barrel carb, dual exhausts, electronic ignition, and 3.40 or 3.55 rearend gears makes a dramatic difference in these cars...

    T.L. is on the money, edelbrock makes a below 500cfm that i was running with the stock heads and cam. got great mileage and ran smooth. a 650 is too big unless you have better heads and a cam.
    i have a standard rpm manifold with no spacer and it is a little tight. if you had the slightly taller air gap with a stock motor under it all you would gain is a hole in your hood or super thin air cleaner at best.
    mavaholic is also right about headers being one of the cheapest bolt ons that will help a mostly stock motor. go with those first.

    I agree....a 570 SA is what I have on the shelf now waiting for a v8 in the yellow car.

    Mavaholic is right on the headers/exhaust...IMO (y)
