i am 15 and i work at chick fil a(the best chicken ever). i quickly found out that it isnt cheap restoring a car. i have a lot to learn.
Keep your eyes open. Take a couple of hours each weekend and walk a new junkyard. Use your imagination and fabrication skills. This will save you dough. Don't buy everything new. If you want a 4v intake, for example, they don't wear out and they lose a large amount of value once they are used. So you can pick up a reasonable part used, and downright cheap if you are in the right place/time. It is the same for many parts you might want. Also, don't be afraid to haggle. Chances are, if you are at a swap meet or junkyard, you could save a little here and there just by making an offer. Look in the classifieds or even pawn shops as well. A short drive to Summer Ave will get you to 2nd Hand Power. Watch ol' Kenny, he's a super guy, but he will sell you anything if you are uniformed about what you need. Tell him Dave said 'hi!'. Dave Edit: North and west of Millington, in BFE, there is a couple of houses on the back road that call themselves Dixonville. There was a yard there that never crushed anything. Tons of old cars. I don't remember how I heard about the place, or how to tell you to get there. It's one of those places that you would never just happen upon. I remember I got their phone number once by calling information and asking for Dixonville, then Dixonville Auto Salvage.
second hand power ah yes good ol 2nd hand power. sometimes i go there just to look around for a couple of hours. i got my maverick a couple of blocks away from there.
Learn about what parts interchange with your Mav too. You can get some deals that way. For example, if you want some cheap gears for your Mav, find a Mustang 2 or Pinto and check to see if it's an 8" rear. If so, you might find some 3.40 or 3.55 gears. Mostly Pintos and Bobcats had the good gears. Stang 2s had good gears sometimes in the 4 and 6 cylinder cars, but the V8s had the posi units... with 3.00 gears. My uncle just picked up a set of 3.55s from a Pinto in a yard for 20 bux!
411 i got my maverick with an extra 3rd member with a 411 but i doesnt have a posi. i want a posi so that i can have two black marks instead of one , but i dont have 400 dollars to spend on a new one so i might try and find a mustang 2 rearend for a v8
If you find a V8 Stang 2... Look for the tag on the chunk. It will say one of 2 things in amongst all the digits: 3. 00 or 3. L 00 The one with the 'L' between the gear ratio digits is the trac-lok. Dave
