I left my car sitting out for a while and recently started working on it. When I turned the keys, it just wouldn't turn over. I poured a little gas in the carb and started it up, and it turned over and then stopped. I figured it was something with the fuel delivery system. I checked the fuel filter, and ugh... there was a substance that I think was rust. I bought a new fuel filter and installed it, and still nothing. Fuel is just not getting there. It was working fine before I let it sit out there. What do you guys think the problem is?

Depending on how long it sat, over a month?,the gas has probably gone bad. Drain the tank and refill with new, preferably premium grade gas. The premium has cleaners that regular doesn`t,and will help to clean your fuel system. Also if your car has a 250-6,tap the fuel inlet on the carburetor somewhat gently with the butt end of a screwdriver,as the float needle will get stuck closed from sitting. Good luck on it,you shouldn`t have to do much more than this!:)

P.S. Check and or replace your fuel hoses. One at the tank and one under the left floorboard right at the front of the door. If these leak air,the fuel pump won`t prime.

I guess I described it wrong. I could hear it trying to ignite, but it just wouldn't catch. I had just charged the battery. None of this really matters though, because it started :yahoo:

Fuel pumps go bad after sitting for a while. Manipulate the throttle linkage...Do you see gas spraying in the carburetor.
