I've decided that i dont' really like my '70 "lower dash" thingie, i was wondering how the later years with actual glove boxes bolt up? Is it a complete dash or just a upper and lower half as before? Will it bolt up? Anyone done it? Thanks!

I ordered a 73 GT in Jan and it came with the tray. I ordered the 2nd one in March and it had an April build date and came with the glove box. This one I still have, so anything after March, 1973 had the glove box. From what i've seen, it can be unbolted and swapped for the tray.

My 73 Mav was built on February 16, 1973, and it has the glove box.

common, what do you mean you don't like that tray???

I have been cussing and screaming at it for nearly 30 years now (mother was original owner0 It is part of what makes my cars personality----the fact that it can't even hold the registration papers without falling out.

I like how everything flies out when you hit a hard bump! Back in the 70's J.C. Whitney sold a door that you could add to the tray to make it a "box".

I remember someone once saying that they had done it and it was a perfect match. The only think I would wonder about is the E-brake, does the handle come off or is it glued on? I've been wanting to do the swap for quite some time now. The tray SUCKS!

hey corbin.. your car was built the exact same date as mine..lol. and mine has the glove box. and the wrong trim code. should be olive geen but the code on the door is for light beige.. which would be ugly, considering the car is green/gold metallic

If you can find a 1974-1975 (or late 1973) lower dash with the glove compartment, it comes with a slot for the pull handle.

Oh wait....duh! I have a 69.5...which means...ignition on the tray! Damn damn damn....well, i suppose if i really wanted to i could rig something up for the ignition to still be on the lower dash(drill a hole and mount it in there or something). Invariably that's where all my junk ends up, and it just looks....trashy. Plus a few of my friends seem to think that it's a foot rest which doesn't make me very happy. I suppose i'll try and find one and see what i can do. Thanks guys!
