I cut the eyes of two main leafs and added one to each of a pair of badly sagging springs. Think it put the rear end an inch or so above stock.

The old bands were reused. Think you can buy new ones if you want to. The center bolt was replaced with a longer one.

About the bands. I have sheet metal stock. I was just going to make my own using a weld to hold the steel together. Can anyone think why that wouldnt work? I dont a pack to come loose. I've seen springs turn out before, cant be having that.

It all comes down to what you want, time and how much you want to spend. Do you just want restore your original ride height, performance application etc......When I had mine redone on my 74 Comet back in the late 80's, I went to my local automotive spring shop and had them put on extra leaves as I wanted them for performance driving usage.
I also wanted them to be approx. 1" lower than stock, so they looked up the specs and dearched them accordingly. New leaves where added for total of 5 1/2 compared to stock which was 3 1/2, original where also shot-peened (stress relieve the metal) and re-tempered.
New clamps where installed along with correct longer center bolts, these are specially designed bolts for leaf springs and new front eye bushings.
Seeing how your car is now over 40years old, in my opinion, it would be wise to take them into a auto spring shop and at least check to make sure everything is OK and get cost estimates etc........good luck!

No I have not personally used this clips. The only thing the clips do is keep spring pack some what together. They don't need to be super tight...but tight enough to keep from sliding around.

I would like to spend the money to all those things. I'm tapped out though. I have a mig welder, torch, and the extra springs. What money I do have will go toward bolts and bushings, I don't want to skimp on those. Besides what fun would buying everything be.

Another option is to buy new. I found new springs were cheaper than having mine re-arched. Check out General Spring in Kansas City. Good prices and great to deal with. The springs were good quality too! I like them better than the JC Whitney springs I bought.

Yep, its fun to make old things good again. :thumbs2: Also, traction bars might not have been needed with the added nearly full length cut off mains. Use what you have and the result might be better than new.
