Everytime that I wash the car, there is a puddle on the driver's side floor. I can see that it is dripping from under the dash, so I believe it is coming from the vents on the cowl. I can also really feel the heat from the engine, so I'm pretty sure the vent is open and can not figure out how to shut it. Any suggestions???????
You need to see where the water leak is coming from...either the vent or windshield seal. Pour a glass of water in the vent and see if it leaks inside. If no leak then pour water on the windshield and check for leak. If its leaking you need a new seal. If it's the vent leaking and if you're lucky you might be able to patch it from inside the car with Rust Builet and Por-15 Puddy.
Read this thread: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=6519&highlight=leak+cowl Unfourtunalty it's not as simple as closing a vent... ...You have two options before your floor rusts out: (if it hasnt already) Fix it or Water Proof ducting tape over the vents
Closing off the cowl grill will not get rid of the problem. Your addressing the symptoms rather than the problem. Water runs down the windshield and drains into the cowl. You also have openings where the wipers come through the cowl. There is only one way to fix the problem.
Thanks for all the help, it looks like a major project. I think I will attack it this winter when there's snow on the ground. Thanks, Mavaholic! great step by step thread on this!

Has anyone come up with a way to close off the windshield drains and make some kind of seals for the windshield wiper shafts? I want to close up my vents and just bring in outside fresh air from a different source that doesn't involve any water.
