I have a question that some of you more in depth restorers might be able to answer. I drove through a big rainstorm a week or so ago, and got a bad leak around the dash area. I went to have the windshield sealed up, which I needed, and the tech found that the grommets/seals around the heater hoses were shot, and it was leaking into the passenger compartment. Called A/K and they said no grommets are available, and that the factory used a sealant around the hoses. My question.....what did they use to seal up the hoses, and where can I find this stuff? I can use rope seal, but what I see looks like foam. Any help would be appreciated.:)

Jeff; called Vickie about them, and she says they won't work on a Maverick. I guess I'll have to go look at them and put them against what I have.

Ford used a urethane rope seal around the heater hoses/evap lines on AC equipped cars...Grommets on non AC cars...I have seen both, both ways so go figure. Butyl tape/rope sealer will work fine.

Earl, is your car a factory A/C car? National Parts depot has all the grommets, you'll need, if it is. I can get you the part numbers.

Dave; nope, not a factory A/C car. Poverty car all the way!!!!! If I can find the rope seal that Mavman72 said would work, I would be good.

Earl , have you checked grommets for a Cougar? My buddy that is building the Comet has found a lot of Cougar stuff is the same. Just another thing you might check.

Earl... Any autobody supply shop will have it, sorry I cant give you a part# (sometimers is setting in) but 3-M and Transtar both make a good product.
Carquest is also a good source for the stuff. Good luck!!!
