    Hi All,

When we fill the tank on the 72 Comet, the next day there is a goopy stain on the garage floor under the car near the differential, and a smell of gas. It seems the gas is overflowing and dissolving the undercoating on its way down the front of the tank. I think the overflow vent may have a problem. Apparently there is a vent valve and gasket or grommet that could cause problems. The line to the front charcoal canister is open; we checked with an air nozzle from the front.

Anybody have any information or helpful hints about dropping the tank and replacing these parts? I’m not too happy to have the closed garage full of gas fumes.

    Thanks,

    karguyz

Open your trunk and check the gasket where the filler neck enters the tank for cracks/oldness. The fuel may be seeping out there.
