I am looking at this for my pinto since I put its 3.55s in the comet. The owner claims it to be some sort of locker. I don't think it's a trac loc because the ring gear ataching bolts sit flat on the diff case(not countersunk). You can also see part of a spider through the hole. Doesn't a spool do away with the spider gears all together. Other than a shimmed up open diff, what can this be?

It might be, but does someone know for sure. There is something in there in the one pic with a tooth of the spider gear showing. I know there are some aftermarket units that fit inside the factory carriers. Any ideas?

Doesn't look like any posi I've seen. Hard to tell from the photos. Can you stick some axles in and give them a turn?

I had a Ford Locker, and an aftermarket locker for a 9", and the first clue is there are no spider gears, so there is no need for the shaft through the middle. Look where the axles go, you should be able to poke a broom stick all the way through, you won't on that one. Might be some sort of Posi.

From what information I have got off the internet, it may be a powertrax lock right. It goes in an open diff case and does use the factory side spider gears and the unit itself goes between them. Is anyone familiar with powertrax products?

The guy that has it told me he stuck axles in it and it's definately not open. I wish he were closer, so I could check it out in person. Peyton
