    Hello people,

I have a question about going from manual drum brakes(all 4) to power drum brakes? I purchased a power brake kit on ebay ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4619014624&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1 )

here is a picture of what was received in the package
    [IMG]
and heres part of the item description "This is a Complete Power Brake Conversion Removed From a Power Disc Brake Car. Includes the Pedal Assembly with Mounting Bracket, Both Shock Tower Braces, The Power Brake Booster with Mounting Bracket to Firewall, Rebuilt Master Cylinder and the Rod From the Booster to the Pedal."

Can any of you guys tell me what i would need to go from a completely stock 1971 Mercury Comet assembly, to go to the power drum set up....

Also, Is it worth it to do this change or am i just kidding myself?

All opinions will be taken into consideration, and I probably value them more than my own because all you guys are smart!!!!!!!
    Thank in advance,
    Sean O'HAnlon

I my opinion the value is determind by what your intent is.
Are you after better stopping power? Are you intending on increasing engine power? If yes then go power disc fronts as well with attention to attaining good front to rear brake bias for max stopping power.

You need front disc brakes. Worthless without it.

I would put it on. You bought it. You can always convert to disc later.

BTW, I see you got a great price on the kit from an ebay guy that has a very bad reputation. Your one of the lucky ones. How much did shipping cost? Thats usually where he makes his money.

For the brake kit, and the A/C dash board that i bought(both were won at 9.99 bid) the total price came to about $38 or something like that... which i didnt think was bad seing as one of the boxes is really long, and the other is pretty heavy!

    So, did i get gipped?

Your existing brake line fittings will not work with the power master cylinder. You willl also have to cut a new opening in the firewall for the different location of the booster push-rod, as well as new holes for mounting the booster itself (if I remember correctly). I agree 100% with Craig, it's not worth all that trouble if you're not going to put discs on it...

Power brakes feel good, but with the v8,power steering and/or A/C if you got 'em makes it really crowded under the hood.JMO

I have always felt these cars have great braking power,, certainly a big increase with the disc brakes,,, never driven a power brake mav,,,maybe I should someday.
