I have recently installed granada front disks with a master cylinder and distribution block (from the granada) into my 71 mav. I now have a problem with the brake pedal height. The pushrod im using came with the mastercylinder but it did not seem to be much longer (maybe 1/4 of an inch, if that) than the stock maverick push rod. Do i have a pushrod problem or is it perhaps the wrong master cylinder. I would highly prefer not to have to replace the MC. It is specific to the 77 granada (power brakes).
A quarter-inch difference in the pushrod actually makes a big difference in the pedal height. It has to do with geometry. The pedal will be quite a bit higher than a quarter-inch.
They almost always supply the longer Mustang rod with new master cylinders. In the past I've cut 3/8" out of the rod and welded back together. Last time I put a 3/8" spacer between the firewall and the master cylinder.
1.) After the spacers were put in; U have to use longer mounting bolts for the master? 2.) Spacer/s cover entire mounting flange or just at mounting holes? 3.)How much approx. did it lower brake pedal? I have some spacers behind my MC, were there when I replaced MC but nowhere like 3/8" more like 1/8". I have a adj. push rod I plan on using to lower the pedal when I get around to it this spring. I am wondering the best option, when/if I can't get the rod out of the MC w/o damaging it..
Spacers are just behind the mounting holes. I used longer grade 8 bolts and screwed them in from the engine compartment. The brake pedal is now the same height as the clutch pedal.
Just use the adjustable pushrod & everything will be fine. Don't make it more complicated than it needs to be.
