Got the maverick running after it sat for about a year. Motor will not idle on its own. I'm running fuel from a fresh can right into the fuel pump. If i keep my thumb on the throttle she runs, she is also a little difficult to start. Also, when the car is running, oil is spraying from somewhere and hitting the fan and going all over the front clip, is this most likely a leak in the timing cover or something? What i need to know is what all seals i should look into replacing, and what the proper method is for tuning the idle on a 200cu.i. with the factory 1bbl carb. thanks austin
If it sat for a year then you need to rebuild the carb - the gaskets and seals go bad when they dry out. If you have oil squirting then it should be easier to find. just trace the spray of oil back.
Im not sure, it showed up black on the rag when i wiped it off of the fenders When the motor was running i didn't bother turning the wheel to see if it had power steering, i was happy enough to know that it was running. I can't see where it is leaking from, it hits the fan too fast to tell. I did however notice that it has a steady run from the passenger side of the front ?swaybar? I'm not sure if mavericks had a swaybar, but its leaking where one would be. It only leaks when the car is running though. I'm posting a video to youtube now. I made it while she was running on life support. Not sure if you can tell much from this video. I might be able to get more soon. Will post a link a.s.a.p.
