Hot Rod article on Old Car Crushing and California Pollution laws .. Check out the comment about the Mavericks and other cars they were crushing ... http://www.hotrod.com/projectbuild/42840/index.html
Avoiding the Crusher I think it is just that reason that I end up adopting every parts car I buy. If it runs and I find out it drives, I keep it!
car crushing program i remember reading the very same article several years ago.still makes me sick now as it did then.how in the world can a car that has been sitting for god knows how long, whether in a barn, under a tarp alongside a garage,be polluting the air?sad on the owners part for sending them to the crusher in the first place.they could have sold them to a private owner, and got a hell of alot more than what they did get for them.
Well i'm not giving mine up thats for sure those policitians can kiss my a$$. (Quote from the article - Soon they won’t be encouraging the removal of old cars from the road—they’ll be requiring it. - ) lol I guess that will make me a bonified law breaker then won't it if they try that. So many people own old cars though I don't see how they can force them all off the road. It's interesting though ya drive by an Oil Refinery see all that crap spewing into the air and they think these cars pollute the air!! Instead of picking on old car enthusiasts like us they outta be spending our tax dollars to develop cleaner alternatives for these damn refineries, but we all know the oil companies don't wanna pony up to clean up their own mess. As they say though Money Talks, and when you have alot of it like the Oil Companies do ya tend to get your way esp with our Government.
somebody pleae find me a paper bag to breathe in! and another to barf in! i am not breathing well and gonna hurl!
i posted a link a long time ago, but in california, there is a program now that can save old cars from the crusher. If anyone is interested, I can dig up the info. I have a regular newsletter sent to an email account of all the old cars retire due to the cash 4 cars for credits program. If you see a car you are interested in, you can notify them and bid on the entire car.
The info can be found at http://www.aqmd.gov/trans/reg16.html Look for "Old Vehicle Scrapping Email Notification" aobut 1/4th the way down the page. I unsubscribed from the notification because it made me sad (and mad) everyime I read that a classic was about to be crushed. Rick
my work put a block on the email address that I have the replys sent to for this forum (I think it was the pop-ups), however, the list is active and good, so tonight I will go home and get the info so you guys can subscribe. I will post it here tomorrow or thur by the latest.
If you guys remember, last year there was a push for Federal legislation to do exactly the same thing they're doing in California. It was soundly thrashed with the help of antique car clubs and such. I wrote an article in our regional mag that I write for, "Hot Rod News", alerting all about this menace to our hobby. As I wrote there, we ALL need to be vigilent and when we see these tree huggers and oil companies and the like trying to legislate our cars out of existance, we need to become unified as never before without regard to our preferences with the make of cars we love. Maverick, Chevy, Mopar owners must act as one to stop this from becoming a greater nightmare. One thing I suggested that may be needed is to form a politically active organization not unlike the National Rifle Association or the American Motorcyclist Association to watchdog these a**holes and protect our rights. Maybe it is high time to do that. It'll cost us all to do that because nothing's free. Do you think it'll be worth it? Do you think we need it?
