Well I will have to get the gouges out so I was thinking that I can get the block bore another 10 to c if I can get them out and salvage the block I have to put new slugs in the cylinders. But somewhere I had a bad problem I just dont know what the hell happen just yet. Tomorrow I will pull the 6, 7, 8 pistons and checked the slugs for defecks and the rings and all other internal components. oh originally the block was bored 30 over so I was wondering if I can go 40 with having any major problems
Not sure what all done on the block. May want to find another block and reuse your pistons. Depending on horse's you may want to have block sonic checked before going with bigger holes. Good luck
Mine is .040 over and I`ve had no troubles after 4 years of Driving it even in 100 degree weather and drag racing with it. I`ve seen .060 over motors that were fine...But I`d never own one
The max bore is really specific to each block. If you want to go .060 and make good horsepower, you must have the block sonic checked. I heard somewhere that 10-20% of 302 blocks will go .060. Most people wont go more than .030-.040 just to be safe. Talk to a machinist first and see what the options for the block are before you decide what to do.
mine's .040. if you can stay at .030, i would. anything over, i think it's hit or miss. not sure how mine would do on the street.
Every 302 race motor I have built are .060 and usually hone another .001 out. They do run a bit hot in 90 degree weathr on the strip at 7000 rpm passes. Now I just concrete the block and works great for racing. Street driving probably would stay in the .040 range. Finding blocks that are std. bore at the salvage yard, is almost impossable, except the later model one's, so sometimes .060 is the only option to clean up the bore's. Sleeving is another deal, but expensive. Course, new aftermarket blocks can be had for mucho denaro, which is not an option to most of us.
seeeeeee told ya .040 over aint the max .060 over is.......................................................
