What was it? the economy? Or did someone build condos or a housing tract nearby, then complained about the noise that was there before they built them and had it shut down? It's a terrible loss anyway you look at it.....It was a great complex. And apologies to my fellow Ford fans, but that means the only Super Chevy Sunday and NMCA meets close enough for me to attend are gone. Hopefully, Tulsa will take them up. If it was financial problems, maybe someone with more means will buy it and re-open the place. .
According to a press release from Dover Motorsports (MMP's owners) a sale of the complex to Gulf entertainment was a done deal, then Gulf hit a snag with the financing and bailed on the deal, so, since Dover had already considered the track sold in their planning, they had no venues scheduled for the track, and their NASCAR events had already been re-sheduled to other tracks. Many events need to be set up well in advanced, so, with no events and an empty schedule, there's no income to keep the track going, and they're shutting it down. Hopefully, someone will be able to buy it, or Dover will be able to start setting up an event shedule again and re-open it in the near future. That sux. Only NHRA event I have ever attended was in Memphis back when it was a spring race. Always wanted to go back, but never seemed to make it. Now I'll have to go to Atlanta if I want to see another one.
In my opinion they put their self out of business, Case in point, We went to a NHRA show about 3 years ago, The tickets were like 45 bucks at the gate for general admission. You couldn't bring in any coolers and to top that off they had the drinking water faucets turned off, Forcing you to buy a $ 4.00 bottle of water. (and it was hot) Also if you went on a TNT night, they wouldn't even prep the track. I drove 130+ miles on one occasion to find the track was slicker than the road i had driven up there on. I am sorry to hear that we lost a track, But i would blame it on poor management and greed more than anything.
