I wanted an open element air cleaner for my car. The common problem is that an aftermarket cleaner won't clear the hood. I had received an air cleaner from a Mustang but I had to cut the carb opening bigger. After cutting, the part if the base that goes over the choke wasn't deep enough so it wouldn't work. So, now I still have the original part but since I added a header I didn't want the snorkel. We have a shop in our town that has a plasma cutter, so I took my air cleaner to them. They cut the bottom the same size as the filter and cut the top to the edge of the word FRONT. The top hangs over the edge of the filter by maybe 1/2". I may have the top cut to the filter size with no hangover, gonna see if it grows on me. I think it looks a whole lot better though.
