CAN ANY ONE TELL ME WHY SOME MAV'S HAVE THE BODY COLOR SPRAYED IN THE MOTOR COMPARTMENT AND OTHERS HAVE THE BLACKED OUT LOOK. I HAD A 1970 BLUE SIX CYLINDER AND IT WAS PAINTED BLACK. NOW I HAVE A GRABER LIME GREEN 1972 AND IT HAS THE BODY COLOR SPRAYED IN THE MOTOR COMPARTMENT. JUST ASKING WHY SOME ARE ONE WAY AND SOME ANOTHER WAY.
1970 was the only year Mavericks had black engine compartments - like a Mustang. All other years have it sprayed body color.
My blue 69.5's engine compartment is painted the same as the body color, unless the 70' Grabber's engine compartment was painted black?
It should have been all the 1970 Mavericks with a black engine compartment I think! Maybe not the 69.5's, maybe someone with a 69.5 or 70 can confirm/deny?
I have a 69.5 with a black compartment. But I wouldn't go as far to say they were all that way. Probably depends on what day it was, if the sun was out, and whether the painter got laid that night.
Underhood color I was told that the Maverick engine bay was painted body color. If it was a Grabber they painted the front of the radiator support paned semi-gloss black to accent the black grill. Some assembly plants did things differently depending on supplies and conditions. I painted mine black because the car was Ziebart, rustproofed and everthing was mostly black anyway.
