I have an MSD 6AL ignition on my Ford and never even really paid attention to it until now. It went belly up.

So, I ordered another one and installed it and everything seems to be working fine now. :thumbs2:

    Questions:
    1. Does anyone else have and MSD box in their car? (Yes)
    2. What does it sound like with the car on and running? (Mine sounds like it is vibrating)

Like I said before, I never really paid it much attention so I do not know what my old one sounded like BEFORE it went out on me. My old one was making a little whining sound. Sometimes it would start the engine and then run for a few seconds and sometimes it would run for minutes before shutting off the engine.

I have a Mallory box, not an MSD, but I mounted mine inside on the passenger's firewall, up out of sight. Can't help you with the sound, mine doesn't make any that I know of. It does have a little LED that blinks every time it gets a trigger signal from the distributor.

I have been running an MSD 6AL for the past 3 years without any trouble at all, no humming, buzzing or noted vibrations. I mounted it where the battery was for better cooling because I've heard they can overheat without proper cooling. Hope this helps.

I have a 6AL the only time I have heard any noises from it was when the car died and would not restart. Found that the pins backed out of the magnetic pickup connector on the unit and they were not making good contact. Swapping the connector to a weatherpack connector is on my list.

Roy, did you call MSD about your old one? They will give you a PO number and you can ship it back to them for repair at a nominal charge. Sometimes they will just send you a new one in it's place. Never heard one make any noise either. I think the last one I sent in cost around 45.00 to fix. Just a thought.

    (y) (y) Great answer, they treat you well on this an may also show a problem elsewhere. I've sent a couple different boxes back and treated very fair!!

mmm... I run the 6AL in my Mustang... but I cant really hear anything with the engine running... must be the two 3 inch exhaust leaks under my floorboards. but Im pretty sure its not supposed to make any noise.
