I managed to score a pair of Flowmasters off a Mustang for $25 for both. I have no idea what series they are but they are off a newer 'stang and had very little rust or anything in them. I cut off the axle humps and left the straights to the cats because they seem like they would make nice exits since they have flares. Assuming the exhaust direction is reversible that is, if not then the straights make a nice attachment points to my existing pipes. Either way I'm happy. Just thought I'd share.
the part number for flowmasters is stamped into an end. its done with dots if that makes sence. you can get number and enter into summit racing or jegs and it will give you the description.
They are single directional. One end has Inlet written on it which is cool. I see no dots, but the patent number is #4,574,914
Part # 42443 40 Series Muffler - 2.25 Offset IN / 2.25 Offset OUT - Aggressive Sound On their website they are listed at $80. I think I did good.
I have the temporary setup all put together and ready to go under the car. This is a "meanwhile" setup until I get the gumption to attack the headers, then I'll be attaching them more permanently. Right now I am using flex and clamps which is far from ideal but will work for now. I am anxious to hear it but the rain has me stonewalled until tomorrow at least. I had a chance to get some 60" side pipes with covers for $150 but they were 2.5 hours away...and the wifes car is giving us fits lately. No matter, this will be perfect, I am very pleased.
the headers aren't hard to install. The passenger side will go it without lifting the motor and you only need to lift the drivers side a few inches
Well I got the temporary setup installed and it sounds insane. WAY better than I thought. Very aggressive and mean. Now all I need to do is fix the no charging problem and I'm set.
Yeah I know, I'm stalling till I have some help and an extra set of hands is all. And the mosquitoes are murder right now.
"Very aggressive and mean" is a good description. Even worse/better are the super44s dumping at the axles... But, I have to admit, I am a bit biased toward the super44s. I actually never thought I would ever use Flows on a car because I thought they sounded to "trucky", but I heard a guy here in Houston with a pair of the 40s and I was immediately hooked.
I have factory exhaust until the pipes level off, then 2 feet of flex clamped to mufflers and no downturn. They are exiting in front of the rear wheel but under the car. I still need to trim it up and hang it securely. I will make a video tomorrow believe that! I think I have a dead fusible link in my charging system.
