I used the thread on here to put a 69 model gas tank in my 72 Maverick ( great info by the way ).. I done everything as noted, but the issue I'm having is on the gas gauge.. Turn the key on and the gauge goes way past full. I only have about 7 gallons in the car.. Possible grounding issue maybe??
I would think a fuel sender issue. Pull the plug off and take a test light and probe the female end of the plug. Light should flash....not be constant. If it flashes...it is the sender. If it stays on....probably the instrument cluster voltage regulator.
The mustang sender probably isn't the same ohms as the Maverick. The gauge works with ohms from the sender.
Ok now what's the deal with senders? I just bought a 69 tank and 69 sender for my 71. Will my stock 71 sender work correct in 69 tank? I also notice my stock sender is a 2 wire and the 69 is one wire?
The sender works fine.. It was the voltage regulator for the instrument cluster that was bad.. Your 71 sender should work just fine..
