Many of you are aware that I've been restoring my 72 maverick for some time, and that the shop went out of business. Well, that shop had purchased a "parts maverick" from a gas station. After weeks of haggling, I finally talked them down to $300. Last night I headed down to the shop in the Hemi with Uhaul's finest...to see what I had. I couldn't believe it!! Grabber blue maverick with good paint! Not even oxidized at all! black inside..and it appears to be a grabber..dual sport mirrors and the trunk fin..though I'm not sure how to verify it's an original grabber? So I thought to myself, wtf...and put the keys in. WHIRR WHIRR WHIRR, VROOOOMMM!!! It fired right up. WOW. I just drove it onto the car hauler. couldn't believe it. So i find out today, that they bought it from the station, and drove it to the shop. Turns out it was a good driver. I've got the door panels and rear seat for the car. The dash is in good shape, and it's got the custom bucket treatment up front, which I'll have to get black seat covers for. the major damage is from being rear ended. However, the biggest dent looks like it'll pop right out from the inside. The shop had previously looked at it, and said it's an easy fix, and even was going to use the car for a track toy race car project when they were done using it for my car. so my "parts" car is too clean to part out. DAMNIT. I'll use it as a template to reconstruct mine, but I won't use it for parts. I'll only have to put back on it what they took off, and that's door lock hardware and some hood bolts, but that's it. Hell, even the tires look new.
you can see the damage here. dents in 1/4. trunk isn't closing right, but it's an adjustment, and not due to the hit.
that was my initial assessment, as I could put the interior together, the door handles and pop the big dent out of the trunk, get it all tuned up and sell it for a grand or more depending on how clean it looks and how well it runs. However,.....Deals like this don't come along too often, and I will need it as a template to put mine back together. I'll sell it to my pops for $500/600 or so, come out a couple hundred ahead and go from there. I can always wait and find a maverick that's been wrecked and pick that up for a parts car. Family first, profit second
why why why is it that all the real sweet deals are on the far side of the earth brad p.s. sweet ride still looking at those front turn lights
what do you mean, are those turn lights something unusual?? You already know the answer why all the deals are over here, NOTHING rusts.....this car was still someones daily driver as of april 2008. when stuff doesnt' rust, and you've got something as reliable as a maverick, it's not uncommon to see it 38 years later now as someones daily driver. For them, the $750 the shop paid or so was a screaming deal for what was just an old beat up car to them. I love so cal....I recently picked up a super rare 1986 5.0 mustang highway patrol ssp coupe for $1200 in daily driveable condition My pops has been driving it now for a year. this maverick will allow him to put it aside to do a resto on the 86 cop car mustang
WOW! I recently looked at an early 1970/late 1969 Mav that barely ran and had beercans and junky needles in it and the guy still wanted $700 for it. You got a killer deal!
