well i bought this 1972 comet about two months ago and i love it. and heres my gas tank, the old one is shot, this one isnt any safer but it works just fine. but i went to a swap meet in sumpter county florida and got a new grill and just finished painting it gloss black, and all the chrome trim for $10, and some other odds and ends. but its been fun so far.
Looks like a good project car. I totally understand the gas tank thing. Back when I first got my '74 Grabber going, the gas tank was rusted so bad it had holes in it. I zip tied a plastic 2.5 gallon tank off an old riding lawn mower in the trunk. It worked fine and got me around until I found another real tank to put in it. I would at least find a way to securely attach the tank to something inside the trunk so that it can't move around. You wouldn't want the fuel line to get pulled loose from it or something.
Welcome to the board from one Comet guy to another. Always nice to see another Maverick or Comet saved and on it's way to being fixed and restored.
Looks like a good starting point. I think those are Deluxe door panels that you have there. Interesting that you have bucket seats in there. Makes me wonder if this was originally a bucket car. Grabber rear spoiler is a nice upgrade as is the Grant steering wheel. (mine has both too) If you are coming down near Dunedin, give me a shout. I could show you what I am up to with mine right now.
Nice, I noticed your heater hose is looped around back to the water pump. So It might be a little cold driving it around until you replace your heater core. I know, When my daughter bought her 72 comet last winter it had the same set up. Good luck with your love. Rick
ya the seats i found out are not stock, they are out of a 1982 camaro. my friend has that same camaro, with the same seats. ill probly redo them with tan leather or vinal. what do you mean by deluxe door panels? edit: on moday when i go to school, ill take some updated pics so you can see whats going on but ill probly deffinitly go to dunein, i mite not have my comet because i decided to get AAA to tow it to the auto body shop class that im in. so right now im working on the body while fixing the steering.
hey man take a lot of pics! it's a great project. looks real nice. the gas tank is awesome, never seen one like that but heard of it before.
pics i plan on, i had to stop working on takin her apart on friday because i forgot my camera. but ya more pics on moday afternoon. the gas tank works, but know one wants to ride in it after i show them, i found one thats aluminum for $180, so i plan on that.
