Hey folks! I have been doing a lot of research leading up to the delivery of my new car and today I called an engine manufacturer inquiring about building and installing a 302 to replace my 250 I6. The lady, who was very nice, told me state laws only allowed her to install a same size or smaller engine. I wasn't aware of this and couldn't find a definitive answer online. Any help woul be appreciated!

1995 and older vehicles do not need NC emissions inspections.

Vehicles 35 years and older do not need NC safety inspections.

I've never heard of an NC law prohibiting installation of larger engines.:hmmm:

I knew about emissions testing, etc., I was just wondering about the engine size law she was referencing. I had never heard of such a thing, and this company has been in business for decades, so I'm gonna assume they at least somewhat know what they're talking about? If no one else knows maybe she's just confused?

If larger engines are illegal there are a WHOLE LOT of illegal cars running around. :yup:

This might give you a better idea about what you can do there ....

It can take a while to load, but it has all the current NC stuff, courtesy of SEMA. I posted their registration toolkit under Tech Articles.

Did a search and didn't find "engine" mentioned. I don't believe there's any restriction on engine size. Good question, though. Its always good to know what laws are being broken.

In reading the rules I did find one surprise: the limit on 6" lowering. Good to know because the plan for my F100 is to lower it 5" front and back.
