Ok Team, I have had enough of the Ford factory power steering on my 72 Maverick and am going to make the upgrade to the Borgeson steering box. I have contacted Borgeson ( www.borgeson.com ) and here are the parts they suggest: 800114 steering box 312500 straight steering coupler 990003 Drag Link Adapter The hose kits fit 1965-1970 factory power steering pump 925107 hose kit (supply 19” long, the return 26” long) OR 925109 hose kit which is the same kit but with hoses 6” longer At the same time I want to also upgrade to a 1988 Mustang GT Serpentine belt accessory drive setup. This is a different power steering pump and from what I see online only goes up to about 1200 PSI. Borgeson says their steering box needs 1200 – 1350 PSI. So I need a serpentine style pump that will work with the higher required pressure. -Anybody done this retrofit? -What pump did you use? Thanks Sean
this is what I guess the ford steering pumps put out. the gm pumps, Borgeson makes a shim kit to change pressures. don't know if they make something for the fords. I gave up chasing that rabbit trying to get a ford pump to work on a gm rack, ended up modifying a gm type 2 to work on my mountaineer accessory drive, it worked quite well for mounting . 1986 5.0 mustang/capri (Automatic): 5.3L/min (1.4 gal/min) minimum flow 6550 kPa ( 950 PSI) Min. relief valve pressure 8480 kPa (1230 PSI) Max. relief valve pressure Pump Model HBU-FX 9.8 L/min (2.6 gal/min) Maximum free flow at 1500 RPM
