having a really hard time with this windshield. picked it up in gainsville, ga. from a guy that said a couple weeks back a guy in a green mav w/ black hood and fenders came and took the front bumper i needed. my only guess is 71gold:huh:. but anyway i put the new rubber seal around the glass and pushed 3/8 width rope inside the seal, started at the top and it was working fine until i got to the bottom and the seal wasnt poping out. i fished it over the lip and the other side started to come off. any tips or tricks to help me get this in would be greatly appreciated

You need to start at the bottom on Mavericks, it's a double lip, one around the pinch welds, and another lip to the dash. They are one of the toughest to install, thats what my glass guy told me. I doubt it was 71gold.....

Take it back out...sorry...Seat bottom first(wont be fighting the weight of the glass this way...Then work around the glass with your rope. You did put a good butyl sealer on the pinch weld before you started right???? I know its messy but... It may leak if you dont seal it up.Good luck...

should you use sealant between the seal and the frame?
the last glass guy who did mine didnt use any sealant and it leaked at a few points. that guy sucked and i wont give him another chance. im thinkng of doin it my self. i have it out right now because the car is geting caged and when im ready im thinking of trying to put it back in myself. i figure i can put in and have leaks just as easly as the last glass guy who tryed.

Reallistically, you should put sealant between the rubber and the pinch weld as well as in the groove the glass goes in.Its messy as hell for the install(hence the reason most glass guys dont do it) but it wont leak this way...ever.

Go to the magazine store and pick up the February issue of Mustang Monthly. There is a great article on how to install a gasket type windshield and back glass in a mustang. It is basicly the same thing and the pictures are great. It shows the best places to put the sealer and what kind of sealer is the best. I will be tackling the same thing next month on the front glass. Good luck. Bob

I never use sealer with a new gasket, Have never had one to leak either. The trick is to get the pinch weld as clean as humanly possible. I use the spray silicone to help lubricate the gasket, It is messy to get off the glass but works good as a lubricant. Their is also some plastic spoons to help getting the rubber out over the pinch weld, Never use anything metal as one slip and you need a new window. If you wear rings or any kind of jewelry remove them before install. Also be sure the drain holes at the bottom and sides are open, Most have been stopped up from previous sealing jobs.
