maybe it's because I'm young, but could you experts tell me what all the different names for mavericks are (i.e. Grabber, Sprint) and such. And are they just body trim differences?

    Thanks, Phillip

    Phillip,
I'll try, expect more definitions from the others.

    Maverick:
    Base model-available with 170, 200, 250 I-6 and 302 V8 starting in '71.

Grabber-1970-75. This was a performance appearance pkg. There really
was nothing about it that truly enhanced performance. Scoops (nostrils) were
non-functional. Blacked out taillight panels and grill enhanced the look along
with stripes. They came with 6's, until the optional 302 became available in '71.

Sprint-1972 only. This was a promotional package available on the Mustang, Maverick and Pinto. Available with 302 or 6 cyl. in Mavericks.

Stallion-1976 only. This took the place of the Grabber as far as performance image for the lineup in '76. All the traditional bright trim was blacked out, and flat or semi-flat bodies bere available with contrasting colors on the sides. Red, Silver, Yellow are the colors that I can think of. Blue?

LDO-most years. This was the dressy models, the name stood for Luxury Decor Option.
Usually these models had more trim, plush carpeting and seating along with comfort options. 302 was common on LDO's.

    Comet:
The Comet appeared 1.5 yrs. after the intro of the Maverick in April '69.
There was the base model, LDO like above.
The GT was the Comet's version of the Grabber.
In general the Comets were a little more loaded than Mavericks, thus a higher
    base price.

    I hope that helps.

How were the Comets more loaded than the Mavericks?

I think he means that most showed up a dealerships with more options on them already. Mercury was always considered as a step above the Ford line, and would not have been ordered as a bare bones car. Many Mavericks were ordered as entry level, bare bones or "Plain Janes". Mercury's were not, as a rule, ordered as a bare bones model.
