My original coil springs in my 69.5 are shot, I replaced the original 170 with a 302 and im torn between replacing the springs with lighter rated springs or heavy duty v8 springs. I like the weight transfer with the lighter springs at take off, but would v8 springs improve handling? Also could could anyone post pics of thier cars stance and say if its i6 or v8 springs? My last question is that im having a hard time findin the right springs for my car does anyone know what spring would work with a 69-70. thanks
Some 6 cyl spring has a stronger spring rate than some of the V8's. The V8 only weights 65 more pounds than a 6 cyl and the V8 sits back farther in the engine bay taking the weight with it. The 6 sits more on top of the suspension putting more weight on the front end. That being said, a person can't go by what size engine has the stronger spring rate. A stock 6 with power steering and A/C will out weigh a stock 302 without A/C and it would get a stronger spring from the factory. Check out http://dixiemaverick.com/DMcoilsprings.html
Alright thanks that chart was very helpful. Its down between the 8088 and the 8306. My car is a 302 with manual steering and ive removed the ac components. Right now my front end bangs/scrapes the ground when i hit a bump/dip a lil too fast, so would just replacin the tired old springs would with newer 8088's fix my ride/ handling or should i go with the heavier 8306's?
Let me know what you end up getting because I'm in the market for some new springs too. I was thinking about getting some torino springs. I think the are the same size diameter and height just stiffer rates. Don't forget shocks play a good role in ride comfort
