Howdy everyone.. I have been a member a little while.. this is my first post. I have a 73 maverick I am wanting to fit with a small front bumper. The front bumper is removed but there are 2 brackets ( approx. 9" x 3 3/4" ) that come through the inside of the front frame rails... Obviously these have to be removed.. do they slide out or need to be cut off ? Also I am wanting to replace the c4 with an aod. Has this been done - does anyone have any information on this swap ?

    thanks sdchargersfan

The front bumper brackets, unbolt. There are two big bolts holding them on. I'm also running a AOD, it's no big deal, just a few parts you'll need.

    thanks guys

any idea on what I need for the aod conversion - can I reuse my trans cross member and drive shaft ?

    thanks again

Driveshaft can be reused but you need a custom crossmember. 71gold can hook you up on the crossmember

With the AOD, what engine are you running? Different flex plates for different engines.

thanks for the welcomes and replies everyone.

Jtown there's no engine fitted currently.I have a built mild 89 5.0 ho ( carb conversion ) and an 87 aod to be fitted... I'm getting everything needed to put it together.

thanks for the link 71gold, I do like the look of the tucked bumpers and also I like small bumpers. I have been given a small bumper with mounting brackets and its much cleaner than my big bumper so I want to fit that. The lower front panel I have is still from the 73... will this look strange ?

I was shocked how much the 73 front bumper ( with the bracing fitted behind it weighed ) crazy !

They got a little bigger in '74. I put them on the bathroom scales and it weighs 89 lbs. The early rear bumper tips the scale at 12 lbs.
