Greetings. Last week I bought an all original, complete Sprint with 58K miles from a friend. 50+ years of car ownership included some FOMOCOs: 1941 coupe, 1939 coupe, two 1951 Mercs, 1953, 1960 Falcon, 1969 station wagon, 1995 Merc, and now the 1972 Sprint. My friend's father-in-law bought the Sprint new and sold it to my friend in 1986 or 1987. Friend knew it was some special model with the flag badge decals but didn't know much about it. I didn't either till I poked around on the Internet. So, I'm the third owner. My friend parked it in his driveway in 1989 where it sat till last Friday when we towed it to my garage. Options include 302, auto, and AC. He has the original radio which I'll get. The cowl vent chamber is rusted out but the floors were saved when the carpets were removed and a pan placed to catch the drips. Interior is covered with mildew but so far so good in cleaning it. Expect it'll be serviceable. There's some rust in right rear fender well and inner fender, lower radiator support, front underside of hood and bubbling in lower passenger door skin. Frame, torque boxes, rockers, etc, all in good shape. Left rear quarter is dented behind the wheel well. Have the gas tank out to remove 19 years of condensation and rust and am trying to decide between about $90 for cleaning/sealing or $200 for new tank. Got to read the forums some more to understand dual exhaust issues with 19 gal tank. I emailed Mavoholic when I saw his Sprint and he invited me to submit info for the Sprint Registry, which I'll do. I'm thinking breakerless ignition, mild cam, smallish 4 BBL and dual exhaust. All bolt on stuff so no damage to a fairly rare car. I'd be glad to hear from anyone out there with parts, favorite suppliers, and/or advice. This will be my second restore (first was a VW Beetle last year). I'm glad to be working on American iron again. Jim Arnold Raleigh, NC
