new member w/comet problems

    Hello to all,

    I have a 1974 comet

    What would make the starter hang and not disengage?

    Installed a new starter and when trying to crank engine, starter will not disengage and I have to pull negative battery cable.

    Relatively new solinoid on it too.

    Any help appreciated.

    sounds like solenoid is sticking to me...

    yea, check the solenoid (which means probably replace it again). And also check the switch, maybe there is a short and once you turn the switch it stays on.
