Just replaced my plugs and cables the other day ( correct plug to distributor cap placement as well ) and now the alternator lights on. Do I need to charge my battery? What's up? Also, an update: Got a new carb, there were a few problems with the previous carb body that couldn't be fixed.
You need to check voltage at battery with the engine running to determine if the alt is charging, it should read approx 13.5 to 14.5v.... My guess it isn't but I have seen one that lied and turned on the light even though it was charging... As a quickie you can check plug on the regulator, they often are corroded and any disturbance can cause loss of connection...
mine stop charging the other day and it end up.being the voltage regulator....u always can do the old pull the battery cable off the positive side while its running trick, that will atleast tell u.something not charging...
With the work on the plugs and wires going on, would it have been possible to disturb the wire on the back of the alternator that goes to the ALT light?
