So we just put in a new torque converter and starter. The last starter cracked and the last ring gear was chipping off. We put everything back together and when we tried to start it it made a thud sound. No sound of a spinning starter. So if anybody can help I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance

My first question would be did you get the TQ all the way in? :)

What we did was pull the transmission with the new torque converter in. The pull the converter out a little to bolt it to the flex plate. So possibly not all the way in..

The torque converter will slide out a little with no problem, but if you pulled it out more than an inch and turned it, theres a good chance the snout didn't go back into the pump as it should. When you bolted the trans back to the engine, did it go hard? if so you messed things up.

If you bolted the transmission/bell housing to the block, and then had to move the torque converter forward a bit to get it up to the flexplate, the converter was installed on the transmission correctly.

If, on the other hand, when mounting the transmission to the block, you could not push the transmission/bell housing all the way forward, and used the bolts to pull the bell housing to the block, the converter probably wasn't all the way back into place and you may have damaged the front pump.

What we did was move the transmission up and pulled it close. We bolted the TC first to the flexplate and then pulled the housing around it to bolt it on. We didn't pull it on with the bolts.
