Hello everyone, new user here. Just wanted to introduce myself; one can guess what my name is from the user id. I am not too familiar with Fords as I have primarily dealt with Pontiacs (currently restoring my 71 gto w/455 and daily driving my 01 T/A WS6). However, a friend gave me a 302 out of a 71 Mach I, and I told him what better to put it in than a Maverick with rust on the quarters and faded paint with a lil lump in the motor pulling up next to a ricer then completely smoking it.
Please excuse my ignorance about the Maverick in my future posts as they may seem a little elementary, but I would like to do some investigating before puchasing one. I am not a purist, so any mod that can make the car run like a scalded cat, handle like a champ, and pretty much embarrass anyone who steps to the plate is welcome.
With that said, I guess I will post my first question...
Would someone be so kind as to post a link stating the best suspension upgrades for the Maverick? I would like it to handle as well as my Trans Am. Cutting and welding is not an issue.

    Thanks in advance,

    CT

As for suspension upgrades, it really depends on how far you want to go with handling and how big your wallet is. The first mods would be stiffer springs, poly-urethane bushings, larger front sway-bar and installing a rear sway-bar, as well as lowering the car to get a lower center of gravity. Wide, sticky tires should be obvious. I believe that there are tubular A-arms available for these cars as well. Maverick/Comet suspensions are pretty much the same as '67-'73 Mustang suspensions. These cars will not handle like a 'Vette or any other world-class sports car, but they can be made to handle as well as any Trans Am or Mustang.

Good luck in your search for one of these fun, underrated cars...

He said he wanted handling. A big-block would make the car nose-heavy as hell. Would be awesome in a straight line though...
