Found this advertised for a Maverick. Checked the numbers and it showed being for a 71-74 Comet so took the short road trip and it was for Comet but bought it anyway. New still in box never installed. Hasn't been Cleaned so still dusty from sitting for years. Not sure yet what I'm doing with it as I someday want another Comet GT.

No offense but it isnt cheap, I went to buy it for my 71 as he had it advertised as a NOS Maverick Grill with no picture, when I got there it was a Comet Grill and he wouldnt lower the price but I went ahead and bought it on a chance. I have quite a bit in it as well as a 2.5 hour road trip.

Question, would all NOS replacements come gray or do the Comet GT's replacements come black with silver. Ford might have sent them all silver and let the body shops repaint them but I'm not sure ?

I believe GT grills were black. The 71 and 72 grills would have 3 stainless strips on the horizontial grill bars.

Thats a standard Comet grill. GT grills were diff. Still a valuable to a Comet guy restoring a Comet GT or not

The gray grills look just fine as long as the headlight bezels are black.

Nice find .... being a D3 code, there would be some revision.... starting in 73. I don't know what that would be. My 72 had a replacement D3 grill put on it prior to me getting the car, so it must be something minor.

I've noticed quite a few different variations of the Maverick grills also
